EJWG Research and Advocacy on Climate Change

Climate change adds a new and largely uncertain dimension to the development problem by compounding the risks of natural hazards. Several studies on the impact of sea level rise in Bangladesh revels that 15 to 17 percent land areas i.e. 22135 to 26562 square kilometers will be inundated within next 100 years by 100 cm sea level rise, which would make 20 million people environmental refugee. It has been apprehended that the poverty reduction and national development are held back by the variability and extremes of climate, and it is doubtful that the Millennium Development Goals (MDG)             might not be achieved if countries are far better            equipped to manage the impacts of natural disasters and climate change.

In relation to climate change COAST, member of EJWG, has developed a set of policy briefs basically to sensitize national policy planners, political leaders so that they mainstream climate change risk reduction in development planning. Click the links for details
